Frisbee and songs

Ultimate Frisbee

Last week I started playing Ultimate Frisbee. It's like Rugby, but with a frisbee, and you can't run with it, you need to pass it. And you can send it forward. Okay, it's more like soccer/football, but with a frisbee, and you have to throw it within 10 seconds when you have it. It's pretty fun, and very social.

We play in a group of 14 people - 7 on each team. There's two games going on at the same time. And there's substitutes too. That's like 30+ people, in downtown Hong Kong. Massive.

I'm in that photo somewhere. Spot me out and win a prize.

Sing a song

I've been working like a dog to learn this super-popular song. I saw this webpage on the Internet that helps you to learn this song, and it's ben great to having me learn. The song is Sam Hui's song "Tit For Tat". In Chinese it's "Bun Kaan Baat Leung" or "Half-Pound Eight Taels". It was popularised in the movie of the same name by the guy's brother, made in the 70's. A gem of a movie to seeing life in Hong Kong. I'm gonna send a copy off to my dad back home. I write that here so he'll remind me.

Learn the song here:
Paris-Hong Kong website on Sam Hui's song

I've also bought a Karaoke version video of the song, and I have sufficiently practiced the song so that I can read the lyrics in Chinese. It's freakin' difficult - the song is a bit fast, and recognising the characters is really difficult. But I'm glad I know a song that everyone can relate to. I imagine now I can sing at Karaoke's - sing a song everyone knows. Should be interesting.

During my first few months here, I went with family to Temple Street (near Jordan). There are Tarot-card readers there and people singing in a group for the poublic, for change. I promised myself I would sing there before I leave. I now have a song, but I haven't the guts. I'll have the guts, it comes in a can. Now I need the friends to push me. But they'll either need to be equally foolish and stupid. We'll see.
